The draw for Kong Kong's international race meeting favoured some of the Europeans and handed 'bad beats' to some of the local favorites. High numbers are on the outside and are a marked disadvantage on the tight track. In The Cup France's Vision D'Etat was handed seven, while Presvis who looked like he needed the run when second in his warm-up race at Lingfield, was handed a poor berth in nine. Local favorite Collection took unpromising stall 10 in The Cup. In The Vase, Michael Stoute's much-travelled Spanish Moon took stall five while Youmzain was given an acceptable stall in seven. Andrew Balding was 6th from stall eleven in The Vase in 2008 with Buccellati and his charge is now two stalls better this time around. Big local fancy for The Vase, Viva Pataca, draw the short straw in 13. Another major fancy, this time from Australia, Silent received the worst of it in The Sprint with draw 14. However the omens were smiling kindly on Stan Moore's Abbaye hero Total Hero. He was given stall two. Robin Bastiman's stalwart Borderlescott took a not-so-terrible 8 while War Artist faired worse in 10.
